‘Tis the season for chocolate and other holiday treats. Here is one of my favourite healthy holiday indulgences.
I am calling this healthy holiday hot chocolate, but my husband would tell you that I drink this all year long because it is soooo good.
The basic recipe is cacao, raw honey, coconut oil and sea salt with hot water and almond or coconut milk. I often make it with cinnamon and cayenne for additional digestive and health enhancing properties throughout the year. During the holidays I love to add peppermint extract or peppermint steeped tea (boil water and steep two peppermint tea bags for 1 minute before adding to the mix) in place of cinnamon and cayenne.
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp of raw unsweetened cacao powder
- 1 tbsp organic coconut oil
- 1-2 tsp raw honey
- pinch of sea salt
- pinch of cinnamon (optional)
- pinch of cayenne (optional)
- 1/8tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/8 tsp peppermint extract (optional)
- 1 cup of boiling water
- ¼ to 1/3 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a nutribullet, blender, hand blender cup and blend for 20 seconds or you may combine all ingredients in a pot and whisk until all ingredients are combined.
- Serve and enjoy.
