Herbal Medicine
A major component of Traditional Chinese Medicine is herbal medicine. These formulas are used to restore balance by nourishing and regulating the body.
In TCM, there are over 3,200 herbs, 300 minerals, extracts and over 400 formulas used in clinical practice.
The different properties of the herbs (hot, cold, ascending, descending, bitter, sweet, etc.), all perform a different action on the body. Following traditional diagnosis methods, a basic pattern or root imbalance is identified. Once this pattern has been named, a herbal formula containing various herbs is prescribed to effectively treat the specific pattern and therefore, the imbalance.

Herbal Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is all about balance. If the body is in alignment, there is health and vitality. When the body is out of whack it will exhibit a variety of symptoms, which can manifest in our sleeping patterns, digestive functions, muscular tension and our emotional state, just to name a few. Our physical signs and symptoms reveal the inner workings of our bodies. They often fall into particular patterns and can guide your TCM practitioner to understand what systems need assistance. And when we support the body where it is most needed – at the root cause of illness – we can help return the body to its natural state of balance and inherent wellness.

Herbal Formulas Come as Tablets, Teas & Tinctures
Most herbal formulas can be used in conjunction with western drugs and supplements. However, it is crucial to get a prescription from a licensed Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner to avoid interactions. When taken properly and under guidance, they have little to no side effects and can be used independently or preferably with acupuncture treatments.
Herbal formulas come in tablet or pill form, but as teas and tinctures as well. In accordance with Health Canada guidelines, our practitioners use herbs that are regularly tested from impurities and toxins to ensure a high standard of safety.
